"Cool Runnings" tells the story of an unlikely team of bobsledders from Jamaica attempting to win a medal at the Winter Olympics.
Based loosely on the events from the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary (actual Jamaican bobsled team race footage from Calgary is used in the film), the team must first overcome the doubts of the international bobsled community. Fans and race officials alike are skeptical that a team from a tropical island can be anything more than a novelty act at the Winter Games.
Released in 1993, the movie features John Candy as coach Irv Blitzer. Blitzer, a former bobsled gold medalist who was shunned from the sport after a race scandal, is recruited by a team of Jamaican sprinters--who had failed to qualify for the Olympics in track and field--to help them achieve their Winter Olympics goal.
Although the Jamaican bobsled team did not qualify for this year's Olympics in Vancouver, I recommend this quirky, feel good movie everyone in the family can enjoy.

Yahh man...I was in Whistler Olympic Village doing some computer work and notice that even though Jamaica doesn't have a team in this year's games, there's still a TON of 'Jamaican Bobsled team' shirts, hats and flags. You guys should do a LardButt Bobsled Team!!
