Former NBA star Charles Barkley is the latest recipient of the Lard Butt Award for outstanding athletic achievement. Barkley's award is not based on his superb basketball career, but rather his extraordinary golf swing.
Barkley's swing, which involves awkward pauses and an unnatural looking downward hack, can be seen on the Golf Channel program "The Haney Project: Charles Barkley". Hank Haney, a golf instructor to Tiger Woods, attempts to correct this unusual technique on the weekly show.
Barkley's basketball playing nickname "The Round Mound of Rebound", as well as his being one of the last players cut from the 1984 US Men's Olympic Basketball Team, also endear him to the Lard Butt nation.
